Children's Facts

Children's Hospital & Medical Center is a 145-bed non-profit organization caring for children since 1948.  It is the only full-service pediatric specialty health care center in Nebraska.  Patients are referred from throughout the region for the treatment of complex or unusual diseases in addition to pediatric primary care.

Key Features and Services

• Children's Hospital & Medical Center has achieved the Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Magnet Recognition for excellence in nursing care.
   
• Children's Hospital & Medical Center is home to the only dedicated pediatric emergency department in the region.
   
• A 33-bed "day hospital," called the Children's Ambulatory Recovery and Express Stay (CARES) unit, provides outpatients and their families with individual rooms throughout the surgical or outpatient procedure.
   
• The hospital has six surgical suites, including a hybrid heart catheterization lab that can provide immediate surgical intervention. In 2009, Children's heart team performed 356 cath lab-based procedures, in addition to 316 heart surgeries in the OR.
   
• Children's offers more than 30 outpatient specialty clinics. They are:

• Children's Hospital & Medical Center provides specialty pediatric care in Lincoln, Neb. at the Children's Specialty Pediatric Clinic which opened in March 2008.
   
• Children's outreach specialty clinics provide for the health care needs of children from throughout the region, with locations in Norfolk, North Platte, Kearney, Hastings, Grand Island, Columbus and Holdrege, Neb., and Sioux City, Iowa.
   
• An affiliation agreement between Children's Hospital & Medical Center and the University of Nebraska Medical Center's College of Medicine offers collaboration and alignment of resources to enrich pediatric health care education, research and clinical care opportunities.
