Care and compassion at Children's extend across all facets of care. Nearly 30,000 visits are made to Children's outpatient specialty clinics each year, providing treatment, therapy and follow-up right in the doctor's office. The new Children's Specialty Pediatric Center, opening in September 2010, will enhance this clinic experience, offering convenience and room to grow.
If your child sees specialists in any of the following clinics, beginning September 1, 2010, your visit will be in our new Specialty Pediatric Center located at 84th Street and West Dodge Road.
The custom of topping out dates back many years and traditionally involves attaching a small evergreen tree, seen as a good luck charm, and an American flag to the beam that's being lifted into place.
Children's employees, patient families, contractors and ironworkers signed the hospital's beam prior to its permanent placement along the northern edge of the Specialty Pediatric Center building.
"We're watching this project with great excitement and anticipation," said Gary A. Perkins, FACHE, president and chief executive officer, Children's Hospital & Medical Center. "There is growing demand for pediatric specialty services across the region. We expect that within just a few years after opening, the Children's Specialty Pediatric Center will be meeting the health care needs of 60,000 children annually."
Perkins thanked employees for the role they've planned in the planning and development of the new center. Additionally, many employees directed donations to the new facility through Children's annual Employee Giving Campaign.
When completed in August 2010, the Children's Specialty Pediatric Center will offer five-stories and 135,000 square feet to house expanded pediatric specialty services in an outpatient setting. Many specialty clinics such as those serving children with chronic conditions including heart issues, diabetes, neurologic disorders, developmental delays, and cancer will be located in the new center. Some of these clinics will move from their current locations in the Scott Pavilion.
The Children's Specialty Pediatric Center will set the standard for clinical innovation and technology amid a child and family-friendly atmosphere. Four of the five floors will connect to the Scott Pavilion. Additionally, the center will have its own entrance and a three-level parking garage providing nearly 400 new parking spots. The result is improved convenience for families and easier access to specialty clinics.
